Curatorial note

This small sculpture by an unknown artist, may be a work in its own right or perhaps could be cast from an animal that features on a so-far unidentified monument. The native European beaver became extinct in Britain in the 16th century (last known reference to wild beavers here seems to be from the 1520s) and this work post-dates that time.
