Curatorial note

The details of this small ushabti figure are in relief. The group of figures of which this is one (with Soane Museum A47 and A94: the three are Vermeule cat. nos. 11-18) are probably all from one tomb, atlhough sadly their provenance is unknown. They are cast from three different moulds; their original heights probably varied from 5.5 cm to 6.5 cm. (2.1 to 2.5 inches). The discoloration seems to be due to the carbonisation of the sacred oil, which was poured over them. All the figures are bearded, as was the rule in and after the XXVIth dynasty.

Provenance help-art-provenance

Unrecorded.
