Curatorial note

This medallion had a pair, a self-portrait of John Flaxman (Soane A21, now missing). This pair were almost certainly early coloured models for Wedgwood. There is a second pair, given to Soane by Flaxman himself, which hang on the staircase and are in pristine white plaster framed and glazed (SC26 and SC27).
