Record, exhibition and survey drawings, as existing, 1796-1818 (4)

The drawings were all done after construction was complete, and so are record drawings of the Bank Stock Office as existing. Drawing 56 is a beautiful watercolour view of the hall, and was probably intended for exhibition at the Royal Academy due to the size and quality of the drawing, but it was never actually exhibited. The view exaggerates the monumentality and play of light and shade in the hall. The survey drawings 55, dated 1798, and 57, dated 1818, were drawn because the renovation of Taylor's other transfer halls to the south and south-west were modelled on Soane's design for the Stock Office: the Four Per Cent Office (1794-97), the New Four Per Cent Office (1818-20), and the Five Per Cent (also Colonial) Office (1818-20), as well as for the newly-built Consols Transfer Office (1797-99).
