Working drawings for the steward's room and servants' hall in the basement, 30 November 1790 (2)

The steward's room and servants' hall are in the basement of the new addition. The steward's room is under part of the new drawing room, one wall following the segmental wall of the addition. The servants' hall is under the north side of the new eating room. Both rooms have Portland stone chimney-pieces salvaged from 'Brooks Hill', with that used in the steward's room having an ornamented pulvinated frieze and the chimney-piece in the servants' hall following a simpler design but made of Portland stone. The drawings have specifications for the joiner, mason and plasterer, written by Soane's clerk Robert Woodgate.
