The entrance hall is a large rectangular room, located on the ground storey, at the centre of the principal (east) front, between the principal and back staircases.

As is characteristic of halls by Adam, the decorative scheme is cool and masculine, and is enriched with trophy panels executed by Joseph Rose in 1771. There are no extant Adam office drawings for these panels, but there can be no doubt regarding Adam’s authorship owing their similarity with those at Osterley and Syon.

The ceiling in the hall was executed by Rose in accordance with Adam’s drawing. It survives in situ, and has been repainted the original colour scheme of blue and cream.
