Anonymous. By Edward Hall, whose name appears on A2r. Hall's work ended with 1532, and was continued from his notes to the death of Henry VIII by Richard Grafton, who first published it in 1548. Along with the previous editions, it was prohibited by act of Parliament in 1555; no complete copy of the first edition survives the burning. Title within elaborate engraved genealogical frame. 'The pitifull life of kyng Edwarde the. v.", 'The politique gouernaunce of Kyng Henry the. vii.', and 'The triumphaunt reigne of Kyng Henry the. VIII.' (caption titles) each begin new foliation. Woodcut of Henry the Eighth in council on leaf XXX5v with caption 'God saue the Kyng'. With the title-page of the 1548 edition at the end: 'Londini: In Officina Richardi Graftoni Typis Impress. Cvm Privilegio Ad Imprimendvm Solvm. Anno M.D. XLVIII'. A variant of STC 12721--12723a. Some leaves of the indexes were printed by Steven Mierdman, and some sheets were printed by John Mychell in 1548; John Kingston, 1560?; and/or John Cawood? ca. 1570? (STC addendum). Copies were made up from various combinations of sheets, with no clear ideal configuration. For details of printing history see STC addendum (p. 278, addendum to p. 557², and the note to 12723a). The text is continuous and complete despite misfoliation, as follows: in the first sequence leaves ccxlv and ccxlviii are misnumbered 'ccxliiii' and 'ccxlvii'; in the second sequence, leaves xxix and xxxi are misnumbered 'xxii' and 'xxx'; in the third sequence, leaves vi, viii, xvii, xix and li are misnumbered 'v', 'iiii', 'xivi', 'xxv' and 'l'; in the fourth sequence, leaf x is misnumbered 'xi', leaves lxxxvii, lxxxix and lxxxx are misnumbered 'lxxxvi', 'lxxxviii' and 'lxxxix', leaves cxii, cxxvi and cxliii are misnumbered 'cxi', 'cxvxi', and 'cxl', and leaves clxii, clxxxv and ccxxxv are misnumbered 'clxi', 'clxxxvi' and 'ccli'.
