Running title: 'Historical Recollections Relating To Egypt'. Baldwin was British Consul in Alexandria. He wrote also on the 'magnetic religion' and dreams in the 'magnetic sleep'. His wife, Jane (née Maltass) was painted by Joshua Reynolds, William Pyne and Richard Cosway; Cosway's portrait, 'A Grecian Lady', 1782, was engraved by Bartolozzi (ODNB).

Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting the half-title. Inscribed by Soane in ink on front pastedown 18 Feb. 1831 / Office of Works. / This book given to me / by General Stephenson, and with the engraved bookplate of B.C. Stephenson. Colonel Sir Benjamin Charles Stephenson (c. 1766--1839) was Surveyor-General of the Office of Works with whom Soane was long associated.

Binding C19th half sprinkled calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt double-ruled spine, red morocco spine-label.
