Rollin's Histoire ancienne des Égyptiens, des Carthaginois, des Assyriens, des Babyloniens, des Mèdes et des Perses, des Macédoniens, des Grecs was first published in French in 1730--1738 and in English translation as The ancient history of the Egyptians, Carthaginians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes and Persians, Macedonians, and Greeks, 1734--1739. The complete work consists of 14 volumes, vol. XI being printed in two volumes. This catalogue entry describes volumes XI--XIII of the Soane set of the complete work, volumes I--X of which are in the 4th edition of those volumes only, 1754 (q.v.). The remaining volumes as described here are apparently a mixed set with the first two volumes [i.e. vol. XI, pts 1 and 2] having a general title-page as above in vol. I only, and additional volume title-pages listing the volume contents reading The history of the arts and sciences of the antients, under the following heads: ... Vol. I (II). The third and fourth volumes are apparently supplied from the original 1734--39 edition having collective title-pages dated 1739 (printed in red and black) reading The ancient history of the Egyptians, ... Vol. XII (XIII), and additional volume title-pages reading as above and also dated 1739, but numbered as volumes XII and XIII of the complete work. The plates called for on the title-page and in the 'Directions to the Binder' in the prelims of the first volume (vol. XI.1: I--IX, [2] pl. ; vol. XI.2: [2], XI--XLVIII pl.) are bound separately in the Soane copy. ESTC n17529 (vols I--II), ESTC n16395 (vols XII--XIII).

Copy Notes Bound as volumes XI.1, XI.2--XIII of a set with Rollin's Ancient history of the Egyptians, 4th ed., 1754 (q.v.). Each volume is dated in ink on front pastedown: 1757.
