A large paper re-issue with variant title-page of Newton's work first published in the same year (q.v.), presumably printed for the benefit of the Edinburgh booksellers named in the imprint. ESTC n962.

Copy Notes The plates are inserted in reverse order and plate III is inserted before p. 345 rather than p. 346 as directed. Inscribed in pencil on front pastedown 0/5/0 1808; on front free-endpaper 7-6; and on page 1 the date 536. B.C. in the margin. Acquired at the Lyttelton sale, 11 July 1823 (q.v.) as part of lot 83 with John Gay's Poems on several occasions, 1720 (q.v.) and G. Mason, A supplement to Johnson's English Dictionary, 1801 (q.v) for £1 3s. (Journal 6, p. 499).

Binding C18th calf, gilt double-ruled borders, gilt-tooled spine compartments with sunflowers, fleur-de-lys and crescent, red morocco spine-label.
