Anonymous. Madame de Staël's De l'Allemagne was first published in French by H. Nicolle, à la Librairie Stéréotype, in 1810 but stocks were destroyed on Napoleon's orders. Madame de Staël, in exile, revised her work from a proof copy of the original edition. John Murray used this to reproduce the French edition in 1813, and also published an English translation in the same year; a second Paris edition appeared in 1814. Quérard, 9:252.
