Three architectural designs were hung in the 'Water-Colour Room', including Soane's 'Sketch of a Design for the improvement of the buildings adjacent to Westminster Hall, made in the year 1794, with a Design for a new House of Lords, ...' (no. 374). Soane is also named in the list of donors at the end for his gift to the Society of copies of 'His Works on Civil Architecture, and the Description of his Residence.'

Copy Notes The exhibition included (catalogue no. 374) a 'Sketch of a Design for the improvement of the buildings adjacent to Westminster Hall, made in the year 1794, with a Design for a New House of Lords, ...' by Soane . There is a long note in his hand (pp. 26--27) referring to the drawing: On Mond:/ Morn. 16 Jan./ 1837/ James went / Mr. Green who thinks this/ drawg. was/ returned to/ L.I.F. between/ 14 & 28/ decr/ Mr Bailey/ on the 16 Jan.37 told [Mr] B. said/ that this drawing remained in/ the frame it was sent in/ until the drawings came/ from Somerset house on Thursday 21st July 1836/ when it was taken out of its frame & left on the Table in the North drawing room - the next time he saw this drawing w[a]s/ several months afterwards it was hung upon on the W. side of the shrine. The 'shrine' referred to is the Dance Cabinet which Soane acquired in 1836. It was placed in the Library-Dining Room where it remained until 1838. The drawing referred to in the note is almost certainly Soane's Design for the New Houses of Parliament, Law Courts &c. 1796, drawn by George Bailey. The note was written four days before Soane's death.

Binding Pamphlet stitched in original grey paper wrappers, front wrapper inscribed in ink 'Sir John Soane Lincoln's Inn Fields Catalogue of the Pictures &c. Exhibited at The Birmingham Society of Arts. - 1835'. Tipped-in between the rear endpapers of the catalogue for the Society's 1828 exhibition (q.v.).
