Volumes I--IV only of a six-volume edition of Don Quijote. This translation, by Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian (1755--1794), was first printed in Paris by Firmin Didot l'aíné in 1799 (l'An VII). The colophon in each volume reads: 'De l'imprimerie de C. Spilsbury'. Twenty-four plates after Lefèvre and Lebarbier, engraved by Halbou, Coiny, Godefroy, L.J. Masquelier, and Gaucher.

Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting vols V and VI. Marginal annotations in Soane's hand throughout, supplying English translations of French terms and extensive references and notes on final end-papers of vols II--IV, the most extensive quoting a discussion of father-son relationships in vol. IV.

Binding Original C19th blue Kleisterpapier boards, printed paper spine-labels reading 'Don Quichotte Par Florian. Tome ...'.
