French translation of: Nette afbeeldingen der eyge dragten van alle geestelyke orders, 1688. With cancel slip correcting text on p. 3, line 4 of the preface. The added etched title-page has title: Histoire de la fondation avec les habits des ordres religieux. The two unnumbered illustrations are an etched title-page vignette and an etched drop-head title on p. [1] which includes an etched figurative initial. The remaining illustrations are numbered full-page etchings printed on the rectos to face the descriptive text on the versos; the text ends on p. 144 and the versos of pl. 73--74 are blank. Almost all signatures are signed only on the verso of the final leaf of the gathering. The final two leaves contain an index of the text in French and an index of the plates in Latin. See R. Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting the additional etched title-page. Inscribed in ink on letterpress title-page Ex libris Horsbrugh. Bound with a copy of the companion work on female religious orders, Courte description des ordres des femmes & filles religieuses, [1691?] (q.v.). Volume front free-endpaper inscribed in pencil - 10.6, bookseller's code on rear pastedown.

Binding C18th hairsheep, gilt-ruled borders and spine, red morocco spine-label.
