Part of a fifteen-volume set of the collected works of the playwright, poet, translator and writer of fables Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian (1755--1794), with half-titles reading: Oeuvres de Florian, Don Quichotte. Florian's translation of Don Quijote was first printed in Paris by Firmin Didot l'aíné in 1799. On verso of title-page: De l'imprimerie steréotype de Mame.

Copy Notes Lacking the half-title to vol. I. Bought with an edition of Le Sage's Gil Blas, 1813 (q.v.) from Mr Le Cointe for £1 2s., 19 September 1815. (Jnl 6, p. 158). B. Le Cointe was one of Soane's French language teachers.

Binding C19th calf, gilt roll-tooled borders and edges, gilt double-ruled spines, red morocco spine-labels. Bound uniformly with an edition of Le Sage's Gil Blas, 1813 (see copy notes above).
