The French translation (superseding that of Jean Godouin) first published in 1704 is attributed to abbé Maumenet; the catalogue of the Bibliothèque nationale attributes the annotations to J. Golefer. Title-pages printed in red and black, with engraved vignette. The vignette and frontispiece depicting Cicero at a desk in his library receiving a missive by a boy at an open door are also found in Husson's edition of the Lettres de Cicéron à Atticus, 1709 (q.v.). The final leaf of vol. II is blank.

Copy Notes Copy 1: Bought from Thomas Boone for 4s. 6d., 3 October 1806. (Spiers Box). Boone's price and codes in pencil on vol. I front free-endpaper. Previous owner's mark in ink inside front covers: scutcheon device with maltese cross over 3.
Copy 2: Imperfect; wanting vol. III. Volume I front free-endpaper inscribed in ink John Soane; an earlier inscription in ink on front pastedown has been rubbed out. The bookseller's inscription xxf 2 Vs- s1- on the vol. I front free-endpaper in Thomas Boone's hand suggests that this copy was also bought from Boone. Both volumes are inscribed by Soane in pencil on the front free-endpapers with page numbers of places marked in text; occasional marginal vocabulary notes in pencil.
