London (Place), Effingham Wilson,, 1830.

Anonymous. A parody of Coleridge and Southey's The Devil's walk, [1830] (q.v.). Its author has not been identified by Wise (Bibliography of the writings in prose and verse of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, London, 1913, no. 72), and the UL Sterling Library attribution to Charles Lamb is unsubstantiated. It is interesting to note that Robert Cruikshank was happy to illustrate both the original poem and its send-up. Colophon: 'Printed by Maurice and Co.' Plates protected by tissue guards.

Copy Notes Bound (2) with a copy of the second issue of the anonymous first edition of Coleridge and Southey's The Devil's walk, [1830] (q.v.).

Binding C19th half calf, marbled-paper boards. Bound by Edwin Hutchinson for 1s. 6d., 17 July 1830. (Spiers Box, Binding 51).

Reference Number 1077
