Translation into English of Betrachtungen über die Werke Gottes im Reiche der Natur, first published in 1785. First translated from the German into French, and from the French into English by a lady [perhaps Anne Plumptre?], 1788. According to the advertisement, in this edition the translation has been revised and corrected to render it more idiomatic. The plates engraved by E. Milchell are dated 1806. Printed by C. Stewart.

Copy Notes Inscription in ink inside front cover of vol. III Elizth: Soane, repeated on title-page. Volume I inscribed inside front cover in pencil p.104/ 30-000 persons die every day, referring to a passage reading: 'God, in his wisdom, has ordained that there should die upon this earth about 30,000 people every day.'

Binding Early C19th tree calf, gilt-tooled spines, red and black morocco spine-labels.
