First published in 1728. The additional engraved title-page by Richard Corbauld, reading 'Rowe's Letters, forming part of Cooke's Pocket Edition of Sacred Classics, ...' is dated 1800; the other plates are dated 1796 and 1797. Reissue of the [1797?] edition (ESTC t134488). The publisher Charles Cooke extended the formula of illustrated pocket editions previously used by John Bell in his Poets of Great Britain series (109 vols, 1776--82) to publish series of uniform pocket editions in other genres such as 'British Classics', 'Sacred Classics', novels and plays, all 'Superbly Embellished'.

Copy Notes Bound as issued with a 12-pp. 'Plan And Catalogue of Cooke's ... Pocket Library' (q.v.).

Binding Contemporary early C19th tree calf, gilt-tooled spine, black and red leather spine-labels. Uniform with other volumes of Cooke's Pocket Editions in the Soane Museum.
