Mr Yorick = Laurence Sterne. First published in 1768 (q.v.). On blue paper. The figure of Yorick had first appeared as a character Sterne's hugely popular novel The life and opinions of Tristram Shandy, gentleman (q.v.), and Sterne adopted the identity of Mr. Yorick for the publication of his own sermons in 1760 and again for the protagonist of A sentimental journey. ESTC t14728.
Copy Notes Some marginal pencil markings and underlinings in vol. I.
Binding C18th tree calf, gilt-tooled borders with corner ornaments, gilt-tooled spine compartments, red and greenmorocco spine-labels. The decoration of volume I uses different tools from that of vol. II, which is uniform with Soane's set of The life and opinions of Tristram Shandy, 6 vols, 1772--73 (q.v.).
