Includes 'The Life of Mr Edmund Spenser' and 'An Essay On Allegorical Poetry. With Remarks on the Writings of Mr. Edmund Spenser' in vol. I, and Theodore Bathurst's 'Calendarium pastorale', a Latin translation of The shepherd's calendar in vol. VI. At the end of vol. II is a bifolium signed Bb2 with an 'Advertisement' and five alternative stanzas to conclude book III, canto 12 of The Faerie Queene from the quarto edition of 1596. ESTC t61111; Alston III.69.
Copy Notes The final bifolium in vol. II containing the 'Advertisement' etc. is misbound at end of vol. III in this copy. Bought from Thomas Boone for £1 1s., 9 June 1804. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.1.4). Inscribed by Boone in pencil on the volume I first front free-endpaper Scarce / Plates. 1-1-0.
Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-ruled borders, gilt-tooled spine compartments, red and green morocco spine-labels.
