Dedication signed 'J. Addison', i.e. the writer and politician Joseph Addison. Originally published in 1705, based on Addison's experiences as a bear leader on the grand tour. Advertisement on verso of title-page: 'Now in the Press, The Miscellaneous Works, in Verse and Prose, of the late Right Honourable Joseph Addison, ... Consisting of such as were never before Printed in 12mo. ... These Three Volumes, with the Tatlers, Spectators, Guardians, Freeholder, and Remarks on several Parts of Italy, compleat Mr. Addison's Works in Twelves.' ESTC t74577.

Copy Notes Purchased as vol. IV of a set (possibly as issued) with Addison's Miscellaneous works, in verse and prose, 3 vols, 1726 (q.v.), from Thomas Boone for 8s. on 23 June 1808. (Spiers Box). Front pastedown faintly inscribed in pencil 11 [over] 5.

Binding C18th calf, gilt double-ruled borders, gilt-panelled spine, red morocco spine-label. Printer's waste spine lining visible under pastedowns.
