A translation of Recherches sur les moeurs des fourmis indigènes, first published in 1810. 'Printed by A. and R. Spottiswoode'. The hand-coloured frontispiece displays species of ants. Soane's interest in the book presumably relates to the chapter on the "architecture of ants", illustrated with a plate.

Copy Notes Bought from Ogle, Duncan & Co., for 6s. 10d., 12 February 1822. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E:4.3). A work on the natural history of bees by the author's father François Huber was purchased on the same occasion (q.v.).

Binding Later C19th calf, blind roll-tooled borders, marbled-paper boards, gilt-ruled spine. Payment of 1s. 8d. to George Richmond, bookbinder, 25 April 1853. (Curatorial papers/Bailey/Parcel 1).
