The French original, Nouvelles observations sur les abeilles, was first published in 1792. This translation by Sir J.G. Dalyell was originally published in 1806. Imprint on verso of the title-page: 'Edinburgh: Printed by J. & C. Muirhead'. Includes a chapter on the "architecture of bees", no doubt explaining Soane's interest in the work.

Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting the half-title. Bought from Ogle, Duncan & Co., for 6s. 10d., 12 February 1822. (Priv. Corr.XVI. E.4.3). A work on the natural history of ants by the author's son Pierre Huber was purchased on the same occasion (q.v.).

Binding Later C19th calf, blind roll-tooled borders, marbled-paper boards, gilt-ruled spine. Payment of 1s. 8d. to George Richmond, bookbinder, 25 April 1853. (Curatorial papers/Bailey/Parcel 1).
