Altieri's dictionary was first published in London, 1726--27; this is a Venetian reprint of the second edition printed for W. Innys, London, 1750 and edited by Evangelista Palermo. Volume II has title: Dizionario inglese ed italiano. A dictionary English and Italian ... . Publisher's 'Catalogus Librorum' at end of vol. II. Title-pages printed in red and black.
Copy Notes Volume I is inscribed in faded ink on the front free-endpaper John Soan / Naples Jan. 19. 1779 / 3½ ducats, all but the price traced over in darker ink with the addition of the final 'e' to Soane's name. (See Du Prey, John Soane's architectural education 1753--80, New York and London 1977, pp. 172 and 474 n.105). Another copy of 'Altieri's Italian Dictionary 2 Vs. 4to.', edition unspecified, was bought from Thomas Boone for £1 on 8 July 1807, but is not now in Soane's library. (Spiers Box).
Binding C18th Italian vellum, gilt-framed spine-title compartments stained red and black.
