A translation into French and Italian of Pope's Essay on man, the former being an unattributed prose version, the latter being in verse by Anton-Filippi Adami. At this date there were extant French prose) translations by Etienne de Silhouette (1736 and reprinted) which had been included in another polyglot edition in 1762, and by Claude-François-Xavier Millot (1761). The French translation is given parallel to the English original; they are followed by Adami's Italian translation which was first published in 1756. The Italian letter to the readers is by Domenico Terres. Also included are Pope's 'Il Tempio Della Fama' (The Temple of Fame) in Italian only, and other poems, not by Pope, translated from the French. The frontispiece and title-page vignette portrait of Pope were engraved by B. Cimarelli. ESTC t5649.
