The prose translation is set in two columns incorporating the footnotes. The botanist John Martyn was also a keen Latinist, and accompanied his translations of Virgil's Eclogues and Georgics (q.v.) with natural history notes. The frontispiece portrait of Virgil and botanical plate are signed by Benjamin Cole. Includes 'Remarks ... by the learned Edward King, ... in a Letter dated from ... Bromley in Kent, May 11, 1743' (2 pp. after p. 280) and 'Remarks ... by the Reverend ... Dr William Greenwood, dated from Warwick, May 14, 1748' (pp. 3--6 at end). ESTC t139419.

Copy Notes Bought with a copy of Martyn's translation of the Georgics (q.v.) from Thomas Boone for £2 10s., 16 June 1806. (Spiers Box).

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt-tooled spine compartments, red and olive morocco spine-labels. Uniformly bound as vol. 1 in a set with the copy of Martyn's edition of the Georgics.
