Imprint fictitious; probably printed by S. Matthysz at Leiden (BL Italian). First published in Venice by Giacomo Sarzina in 1636. Pallavicino was the author of numerous clever but scurrilous satires on the Roman curia, the Barberini family, the Jesuits and the Roman Inquisition. His writings led to his execution in Avignon in 1644 but his reputation was a possible inspiration for other satirical works such as those of Le Sage (qq.v.). Woodcut device on title-page.
