A line-for-line reprint of the Giuntine edition of 1527, with added editorial matter. Edited by Paulo Rolli who signs the dedication. Imprint from the verso of the secondary title-page (leaf [xi]), which reads 'Il Decamerone Di M. Giovanni Boccaccio Nuovamente Corretto Et Con Diligentia Stampato.' The frontispiece is by B. Baron after G. Grisoni, and the portrait of Boccaccio facing the 'Vita Di Messer Giovanni Boccaccio ...' by Filippo di Matteo Villani is by L. Auber. The preliminaries include a three-page list of subscribers. The same setting of type was also imposed upon a folio format. The earliest of the six editions of the Decamerone in Soane's library was published in Venice, 1545 (q.v.). ESTC t143906.
Copy Notes A single manuscript footnote in ink on leaf [vi] of the preliminaries. Bookseller's codes in ink and pencil on front and rear free-endpapers.
Binding C18th mottled calf, blind double-ruled borders, gilt-tooled spine with two-headed eagles in French fillet compartments, red and black morocco spine-labels, marbled endpapers.
