The Salviati edition of the Decamerone was first published in Florence, 1582; the earliest dated edition is that of Christopher Valdarfer, Venice, 1471. The earliest of the six editions in Soane's library was printed in Venice, 1545 (q.v.). The present edition has a woodcut vignette portrait of Boccaccio on the final page of prelims, a large woodcut at the start of each of the ten days of the framing narrative which give the work its name, and a smaller woodcut illustrating each of the 100 tales.
