General title-page in volume I only; each volume has a special title-page. The separate title-pages in vol. II has imprint: H. Lintot, J. and R. Tonson and S. Draper; those in volumes III--X have imprint: J. and P. Knapton. William Warburton's large octavo edition of Pope's works was first published in 1751 (q.v.). This small octavo edition is without Warburton's notes. The plates are numbered consecutively I--XXIV, and are unsigned copies of those of the 1751 edition. Title-pages printed in red and black. There are Knapton advertisements at the end of vols IV and V. ESTC t5435.
Copy Notes Bought from Thomas Boone for £1 5s., 9 June 1804. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.1.4). With Boone's hieroglyphs and annotation 10 Volumes in pencil on vol. I front free endpaper.
Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-ruled borders, gilt double-ruled spine with small floral ornament in the spine compartments, red spine-labels. Volume 9 has a different fleur-de-lys ornament in the spine compartments and has evidently been made up from another set.
