General title-page in volume I only; each volume has a special title-page. The imprint to vol. II includes H. Lintot, J. and R. Tonson, and S. Draper; that to vols III--IX only J. and P. Knapton. William Warburton's large octavo edition of Pope's works was first published in 1751 (q.v.). The plates are numbered consecutively I--XXIV, and are unsigned copies of those of the 1751 edition. The final leaf of vol. III is a catalogue of books printed for John and Paul Knapton. A blank leaf precedes the main text in volumes VI and VIII. Soane made numerous references to Pope's works in his lectures. ESTC t5434.

Copy Notes Mid-eighteenth-century armorial bookplate of Peter Middleton. M.D., on front paste-down of all volumes; inscribed in ink on all title-pages Susannah Middleton. Occasional pencil annotations and marks of emphasis. Volume IV has a book mark inserted at page 289.

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt-tooled spine compartments, red and black morocco spine-labels.
