Translation originally published in 1669. This is the variant with 'Volume I.' on title-page, intended to be issued with Fables and storyes moralized, 2nd ed., 1708 (q.v.). Includes fables of Barlandus, Anianus, Abstemius and Poggius, as well as 'The Life Of Æsop'. Pages 21--33 of 'The life' are misnumbered 17--29. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Sir Roger L'Estrange is by Van der Gucht after G. Kneller. Includes a list of 'Books Written by Sir Roger L'Estrange, Kt.' at the end of the preliminaries (leaf C4) and a final leaf of advertisements. ESTC t84996.

Copy Notes Bought with 'Vol. II.', Fables and storyes moralized, 2nd ed., 1708 (q.v.) from Thomas Boone, 18 March 1815, for 3s. (Spiers Box) and inscribed in pencil by Boone 2 Vols =3s= with a bookseller's code. Soane's signature appears on the front free-endpaper of both volumes.
