These two volumes were intended to form a second part to Le gemme antiche and Bellori's Annotationi sopra le gemme antiche, published by Agostini and Dragondelli in 1657 (q.v.). Volume II imprint reads 'Per Michele Ercole'. Plates 52 and 53 are not described in the second or text volume, 'Annotationi sopra le gemme antiche ... parte seconda'.

Copy Notes Bound in one volume after vol. II of Agostini's earlier Le gemme antiche ('Annotationi sopra le gemme'), 1657 (q.v.). The two volumes bought from A. Maxwell for 19s. 6d. on 29 May 1812. (Spiers Box). Volume I is imperfect, wanting pl. 52. A portion of pl. 36, depicting the phallus of Abraxas, has been cut out and re-inserted.

Binding C17th vellum, inscribed in ink 1 on the spine and 41 on upper cover. Spine lettered in ink 'Le Gemme / di / L. Agostini' and with a paper label lettered in ink 'Gemme/ Antiche/ Agostini/ Roma 1657'.
