The first French translation, published after the translator Jean Martin's death. With a dedication to Henri II signed by Denis Sauvage. The preliminary matter includes a long epitaph for Jean Martin by Ronsard. The title and imprint are set within a woodcut strapwork frame with two kneeling satyrs at the base and Kerver's device at the top, the latter also incorporated in a shielf held up by a unicorn in the device on the final page. Colophon printer's statement reads 'Imprimé a Paris par Robert Masselin, pour Iacques Keruer Libraire iuré en l'Vniuersité de Paris, ...'. Leaves 148, 164, 167, 219 misnumbered 150, 146, 160, 216 respectively. With an unnumbered leaf following leaf 166 and a folded bis leaf 185. BAL Early printed books, no. 50.
