ALBERTOLLI, Ferdinando (1781--1844)
Fregi trovati negli scavi del foro Trajano con altri esistenti in Roma ed in diverse città d'Italia disegnati e misurati sul luogo da Ferdinando Albertolli ...
Milano (Place), per Nicolò Bettoni,, 1824.
[8] p., XXII, [1] pl. ; 52.0 cm. (2°)

Three further plates numbered XXIII--XXV, not listed in the three-page 'Descrizione Delle Tavole' following the dedication, were presumably added later to some copies including the BAL copy, which lacks the letterpress list of the plates and was presented by Albertolli to T.L. Donaldson per Francis Nash in late 1838. The Soane copy appears to represent an intermediate issue including one further plate signed by A. Barioli (engraver of twelve plates in the present work including plates XXIII--XXV) in an unnumbered state, captioned 'Parte d'uno de' due fregi dell'Urna Birago, opera del XVI Secolo nella Chiesa della Passione in Milano', and numbered XXIII in pencil. The work is dedicated to Giocondo Albertolli, the author's uncle and himself the author of works of engraved ornament including Ornamenti diversi, [1782] (q.v.). A second edition of the Fregi was published in 1838, by which date the work comprised XXVIII plates. BAL, Early printed books, no. 59 (25 pl.); Berlin Kat. 3942 (22 pl.); Guilmard, p. 336 (22 pl.).
