Anonymous. The text first appeared as an anonymous article on smoke in the Encyclopaedia Britannica, Edinburgh, 1771, and again anonymously as a separate Dublin edition in 1777. James Anderson first put his name to the work in the third edition, 1783. With an errata slip at the front describing errors in the proportions of figs 17 and 18 of the plate. ESTC t53819.
