THE ANTI-JACOBIN REVIEW
The Anti-Jacobin Review and Magazine; or, Monthly political & literary censor. ... [No. 3, September 1798--no. 4, October 1798.]
(8°)

Title from printed wrapper of no. III, September 1798. Printed by J. Plymsell; for J. Wright; Mundell and Son, Edinburgh; J. Millikin, Dublin; and W. Cobbett, Philadelphia. A monthly publication designed to follow the example of William Gifford’s Anti-Jacobin; or, Weekly examiner (ESTC p2134), as an attack on democrats, radicals, Catholics, Irish independence, and French ideas, edited by "John Gifford", i.e. John Richards Green. Published monthly from July 1798 to April 1810, it included anti-democratic cartoons, reviews of plays, books and politics. The numbers were collected into 35 cumulative volumes (i.e. three a year) including contents, lists of authors and titles, and an Appendix, "containing an ample review of foreign literature" (ESTC p1913). See Emily Lorraine de Montluzin, The Anti-Jacobins, 1798-1800: the early contributors to the Anti-Jacobin review (Basingstoke: Macmillan, 1988).
