This is a new edition, reset page-for-page from the previous one of 1775 (q.v.). An impression of J.S. Müller's engraved portrait of Gray after John Giles Eccardt (active 1740, died 1779), which Robert Dodsley had intended to include in the first edition of 1753 but was suppressed at Gray's insistence, is present in the British Library's copy of the 1789 edition. Like most other copies however, Soane's does not include this portrait. See A.T.
