Text in Latin and Italian on facing pages. The plates are numbered I--XX with one unnumbered plate at page 20 repeated on the verso of the sheet with the page reference uninked; many are made up of two sheets joined together, and pl. XVII of four sheets joined together. Plate IX has an engraved note pasted onto it. Based on the author's archaeological excavations in the Farnese estates in Rome in the 1720s and published posthumously by Bianchini's son Giuseppe, who signs the dedication to Louis XV of France. Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on verso of title-page M.C [or G?] 96.50 / 1739. Bookseller's price in pencil 1-5-0 on verso of front free-endpaper and code rs/f (?) on recto of rear free-endpaper.

Binding C18th mottled goatskin, upper and lower covers with gilt-tooled floral decoration and strapwork onlaid in citron and red within gilt-tooled acanthus motif borders, scallop corner-pieces, gilt-tooled spine, stained turn-ins, Kiebitzpapier pastedowns.
