This is a pocket-sized version of the author's folio L'architettura civile, 1711 (q.v.), with additions and corrections to the text. The plates are unsigned and contain reduced (and sometimes reversed) copies of most of the illustrative material in the earlier work; in many instances the figures and diagrams are clearer and more carefully etched in this small format than they were in their original larger version. The second volume first appeared in 1732 and has 58 plates numbered 1--13, 13A--44, 44--56. The two volumes were subsequently reprinted (and no doubt sold) separately, leading to a prevalence of mixed-edition sets (cf. BAL, Early printed books, no. 1164). Hooked on Books 1.4.

Copy Notes Volume I is inscribed in ink on the front paste-down Mr De Cort R.A. of Paris - i.e. probably the painter Hendrik Frans De Cort (1742--1810).

Binding Contemporary C18th vellum, spine drirct-lettered in ink.
