In the sequence of plates relating to vol. II there are eleven bis plates (at pl. 58, 78--82, 84--87 and 89), two ter plates (at pl. 86 and 89), and no pl. 25. The present copy matches the Fowler catalogue description of a copy of the second, corrected impression of the first edition (see Fowler catalogue, no. 49, pp. 38--39), except that here the plates including the frontispiece are bound up separately in two atlas volumes, a duplicate impression of Cochin's frontispiece plate being provided for the second atlas volume. The half-title present in the first impression (q.v., vol. I only) has been suppressed. Title-pages printed in red and black. Text framed by thick-thin borders. BAL Early printed books, no. 297.

Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting ter pl. 86. A copy was bought by Soane at Christie's on 16--17 February 1815 in a lot that also contained '3 nos.' of W.G.Becker's Das Seifersdorfer Thal, 1792 (q.v.); Pierre Rousseau's Projet d'un palais national, 1790 (q.v.); and '3 Livraisons of the Encyclopedie relating to Architecture'. (See marked-up copy of the sale catalogue in Christie's archive, p. 17, lot 54, where the hammer price is recorded as £1 3s. 0d.).

Binding C18th 'catspaw' mottled calf, blind triple-rule borders, gilt-tooled spines, red morocco spine-labels. Bound in four volumes.
