Half-sheet, folded, final verso blank. Watermark date: 1822. In addition to being an advertisement for Joseph Weston's commemorative edition of Bloomfield's works, this leaflet is also a circular to raise a subscription for the relief of the poet's widow and family after his long illness and death in 1823 as well as a prospectus for the publication by subscription of 'Bloomfield's Songs ... to be printed in folio ... As soon as 100 copies are subscribed for ...'. A letter from Joseph Weston 'hoping the object ... will apologize for this intrusion' is printed on p. [3]. Bloomfield's reputation rests chiefly on his poem The farmer's boy, published in 1800 (1806 ed., q.v.).
Copy Notes Originally folded and sealed as a letter, addressed to John Soane Esq. / 13. Lincoln's Inn Fields, postmark dated 22 July 1824. The same hand has inserted For the exclusive benefit of his own family at the foot of the drop-head title.
