First edition; the second edition of 1778 is a reissue with cancel title-page and the imprint of J. Murray. The numbering of the plates is irregular, lacking pl. XIII and with a bis pl. XVII. The 'New Art of Surveying', 'Table of the Logarithms' and 'Table of the Logarithmic Sines and Tangents' have divisional title-pages; pagination and register are continuous. ESTC t112950.

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt-rule borders, gilt-tooled spine, red morocco spine-label, marbled endpapers.
