Half-sheet, folded, final verso blank. Two large quarto 'editions' were proposed, the smaller on elephant, the larger on atlas size paper, to produce an uncut page height of 14 and 17 inches respectively (the larger to 'correspond in size with "The British Gallery of Pictures," published by Longman & Co.'). The work was to be issued in an unspecified number of parts, each containing four finished Engravings, or three that are finished, and two of slighter execution' accompanied by 'twelve to twenty-four pages of letterpress', the smaller edition priced at £1 1s. per part, the larger at £1 11s. 6d. In addition to 'twenty-five sets of Proofs ... worked on India Paper', it is also proposed that a 'limited Number of copies of the portraits and historical prints will be worked IN COLOURS, and finished by the pencil, so as to imitate the style of colouring and effects of the original pictures.' Soane appears to have contented himself with an 'ordinary' copy of the large-paper issue (q.v.).
