The present copy represents the quarto issue of this work which was simultaneously issued in octavo. Plate X is an additional engraved title-plate, and pl. VIII is bound as a frontispiece. With the imprint of J. Noyes, printer, on the verso of the title-page. According to an 'Address' (p. [vii]) dated January 1825, 'nearly the whole of this volume was printed and ready for publication in August last, when a fire at the office of the printer consumed the entire Impression, and the author has been obliged to have the Work reprinted, which has consequently delayed its appearance.' BAL, Early printed books, no. 422.

Copy Notes The Soane copy contains 'proof' plates as well as proof-before-letters duplicates of plates III, IV, V, VII and VIII. With a copy of Britton's 12-page Descriptive catalogue of embellished works on architectural antiquities, 1825 (q.v.), bound in at the end.

Binding C19th quarter maroon morocco, marbled-paper boards, printed paper-label on upper board and spine.
