Lady Callcott's description is based on notes she made on the spot in November 1827. The accompanying wood-engravings are after drawings by her husband, Sir Augustus Wall Callcott, RA (1779--1844) whose landscape, The Passage Point (Soane Museum, New Picture Room), was commissioned by Sir John Soane in 1829 and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1830. The frontispiece, a sketch of the chapel by 'P. P.', was lithographed by Maria Callcott, and is dated 1834.
