The next edition, published in Venice in 1571, introduced woodcut illustrations of Christian iconography as well as oriental divinities, most of which were copied by the engraver, Bolognomino Zaltieri (fl. 1560--80), from contemporary prints. Thereafter it went through numerous editions and became one of the most popular emblem books of the 16th and 17th centuries. Another issue of the 1581 edition has the imprint of Bartholomeo Honorati. The final leaf of prelims, signed 4*4 is a blank, as are two final leaves G7,8.
