The dedication to the 'Peres Prieur Et Religieux De La Chartreuse of Paris' is signed by the publisher Cousinet. The 22 canvases of the life of St. Bruno were painted by Le Sueur between 1645 and 1648. After the destruction of the monastery, the paintings were placed first in the Palais Luxembourg, then in the Musée Royal, and finally in the Louvre. Lithographic reproductions were published in 1822 when the paintings were exhibited in the Musée Royal.
