Lugt 6431; Fredericksen, Index of paintings, I, p. 20, no. 111. 'Perhaps the most important sale to have been held during this period [i.e. 1801--05]' (Fredericksen). Though very high prices were achieved, some 75% of the lots were in fact bought in. [In 1801, the art dealer Michael Bryan formed a syndicate with Sir Simon Clarke and George Hibbert to acquire paintings from the Robit Collection in Paris].
